This list of motorways and expressways in Slovenia gives an overview of the high-level road network in Slovenia , but does not claim to be exhaustive. In 2012, the network of motorways ( Slovenian : Avtoceste, Singular Avtocesta ) in the country had a length of 528.5 km, in addition there were 70.2 km of motorway-like expressways (Slovene: Hitre Ceste , Singular Hitra Cesta ). At that time there were 12.2 km of motorways and 10 km of expressways under construction.

By 2013 the entire network of motorways and expressways should be increased to a total of 660 km.
The operator of all motorways and expressways is the state-owned DARS ( D ružba za a vtoceste v R epubliki S loveniji).

    General

The speed limit on motorways in Slovenia is 130 km / h, on expressways 110 km / h. The information boards are in green in coordination with other countries and based on the European roads.

    history

In 1972 the first motorway route between Vrhnika and Postojna was opened in Slovenia with a length of 30.1 km. A total of 198.40 km of motorways and expressways were built in Yugoslav times . In 1993 DARS was founded . In the following year, 1994, the operating company began to continually expand the network.

In 2009 the longest Slovenian A1 motorway was opened to traffic . It connects Maribor (and Graz to the north ) with Ljubljana and the port city of Koper . The A2 and A5 autobahns were also opened to traffic in 2009.

    financing

In 2010, DARS has 243.40 million euros available for further expansion and 55.71 million euros for the maintenance of the motorway network.

    Binding specifications

Since June 2008, a vignette has been mandatory for cars (up to max. 3.5 tons ) on Slovenia's motorways instead of the previously existing route-related toll . First, a half-year and a year-round vignette were set. This met with resistance from the EU and the automobile clubs, but the Slovenian government insisted on its vignette program. An agreement was finally reached in 2009, Slovenia is now introducing 7-day and monthly vignettes. The vignettes valid in 2019 are the annual (95 euros ), the monthly (30 euros) and the 7-day vignette (15 euros). The toll in the toll booths continues to apply to trucks .

    Special toll routes

A special toll of € 7.20 has to be paid for the Karawanken tunnel in the north direction. (The toll in the south direction is levied in Austria.)

Roundabouts near a freeway or at a freeway entrance are already subject to toll, as these are already on the freeway and are also used by toll evaders. Anyone found without a vignette will have to pay a fine here too.
