The Autocesta A9 ( Croatian for 'Motorway A9') is a Croatian motorway that runs from Kaštel on the Slovenian border to Pula . It is part of the Istrian Ypsilon . The southern part, which also takes the traffic to Rijeka , is built as a motorway , the northern and predominant part as a dual carriageway (comparable to consistently prioritized federal roads).
In mid-2008, the four-lane expansion to the motorway began. In June 2010 the four-lane section Pula – Kanfanar and on June 14, 2011 the second lane Umag – Kanfanar were opened to traffic. Since then, the entire route has been subject to tolls.
