The County of Istria ( Croatian: Istarska županija , Italian: Regione istriana ) is a County [ ɡəˈʃpaːnʃaft ] in western Croatia . It covers most of the Istrian peninsula on the Adriatic . It borders Slovenia in the north and Primorje-Gorski kotar County in the east . It has an area of 2,813 km² and a population of 208,055 (2011 census).
Political institutions
The official administrative seat of the county and the seat of the county assembly is Pazin . The seat of the county government is Pula . Solemn sessions of the county assembly usually take place in the building of the former Istrian parliament in Poreč / Parenzo . In addition to Croatian , Italian is also used as the official language in the settlement areas of the Italian minority .
