The Avtocesta A4 ( Slovenian for 'Autobahn A4'), also called Podravska avtocesta ( Drau Autobahn), leads from Maribor / Marburg to the Croatian border and from there to Zagreb . It relieves the parallel state road ( Ptujska cesta ), as there were always long traffic jams towards Croatia. In the final stage, the motorway is 33.7 km long.

Gruškovje, border crossing to Croatia

There were three construction phases:

• 1st phase: Construction of a motorway border crossing at the Croatian border as a connection to the A2 (completed, opened in December 2009).
• 2nd phase: Construction of the Slivnica – Draženci section with 19.9 km (completed, opened on July 16, 2009).
• 3rd phase: Construction of the Draženci – Gruškovje section with 13.3 km. The section was divided into two sections.

The first section from Draženci to Podlehnik is 7.25 km long. Construction began in August 2015 and was opened to traffic on November 22, 2017. The second section from Podlehnik to Gruškovje is 6.05 km long. It was opened to traffic on November 30, 2018
