The Hitra cesta H6 ( Slovenian for 'expressway H6') is a mainly planned expressway and is to lead from the H5 near Koper via Izola to Lucija and Portorož . Part of the expressway is to run on the route of today's national road 111.

Current expansion

At the beginning of 2009, construction work began on the Koper – Izola section. According to the DARS, the expressway should originally be completed in November 2011. However, the completion was delayed due to problems with the construction company CPM and only took place in May 2015. This section also includes the “Markovec” tunnel with a length of 2144 meters.

The already completed Izola bypass was included in the H6 after the tunnel was opened.

The further expansion to Portorož is currently still open.

The H6 is intended to relieve the existing coastal road 111 in the direction of Portorož, as there are always long traffic jams , especially during the summer months.
