The Hitra cesta H4 ( Slovenian for 'expressway H4') runs from the Razdrto junction on the A1 to the Italian border at Vrtojba . Construction began in 1990 and was fully opened in August 2009. It is 40.9 km long and connects Nova Gorica with Ljubljana .

The expressway is operated by the Slovenian motorway company DARS.
