Pivka (until 1952 Šempeter na Krasu , formerly also Šentpeter na Krasu , German: St. Peter in Krain , Italian San Pietro del Carso ) is a municipality in the Primorska region (coastal land) in Slovenia .

Location and inhabitants

6102 people live in the total community, which consists of 29 villages. The main town Pivka alone has 2059 inhabitants and is located in the south-west of the country, north of Ilirska Bistrica on the river Pivka of the same name .

Pivka is located on the Ljubljana – Trieste railway line , from which the line to Rijeka in Croatia branches off.

Culture and sights

In Pivka there is the military-historical park Park vojaške zgodovine . You can see tanks, tracked vehicles and artillery pieces from earlier times, as well as modern vehicles that the Slovenian army no longer needs due to joining NATO . This extensive collection is shown in an old barracks.
