Map with all coordinates: The Avtocesta A5 ( Slovenian for 'A5 motorway'), also called Pomurska avtocesta (' Murgebiet motorway'), is the third longest Slovenian motorway and connects Maribor with Murska Sobota and the Hungarian city of Nagykanizsa .
geography
After Slovenia's independence from Yugoslavia , the route gained national importance as an extension of the A1 motorway , as it connects the port of Koper (and the Italian port of Trieste ) with the logistically important hinterland of Hungary and East Central Europe without having to pass through Croatia or Austria . As a result of the membership of the two countries in NATO , this corridor also acquired special strategic military significance.
Likewise, the peripheral Prekmurje around the city of Lendava will be better connected to the centers of Slovenia and south-west Hungary.
In Hungary, the M70 and M7 motorways connect to the A5 in the direction of Budapest.
It is part of the European route 653 and is a large bypass of the Maribor - Graz - Fürstenfeld - Szombathely - Budapest ( A2 , B 65 / S7 ) route on the European route 66 .
construction
The first section between Vučja vas and Beltinci , including the crossing of the Mur at Murska Sobota, was opened in 2003. The section between Marburg and Lenart followed in May 2008, the longest section from Beltinci to Pince followed in August 2008 and the last section between Lenart and Vučja vas was completed on October 30, 2008. The A5 is the second completely completed motorway in Slovenia.
It consists of two 3.5 m wide lanes without hard shoulder in each direction of travel with a speed limit of 110 km / h.
