The Belgian Ring 6 is a motorway that runs around the city of Mechelen as an urban motorway . The currently completed section forms the north ring around the city. The R6 starts at exit 9 of the A1 (Mechelen-Noord), where it crosses the motorway together with the N16 , and ends after approx. 4.5 km on the Mechelsesteenweg in Sint-Katelijne-Waver . The ring has 2 × 2 lanes throughout .
Since 2009 the level crossings along the R6 have been replaced by overpasses; At the same time, an overpass over the Mechelsesteenweg will be built. The first bridge was completed in 2011.
A new route from Sint-Katelijne-Waver to the N15 near Putte has been built since 2012 . The clearing work and the archaeological work started in February 2012. The construction work itself began in April 2012 and will be completed by the end of 2014 [obsolete] .
