The European route 002 (short: E 002 ) is a 540 km long European route of the intermediate network in Azerbaijan and Armenia .
course
The European route 002 begins in Ələt on the Caspian Sea and then essentially follows the course of the Macaw (Araks) in a westerly direction to Meghri on the southern border of Armenia and from there further northwest again in Azerbaijan, in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan , through Naxçıvan (Nakhichevan ) and Sədərək (Sadarak) on the border with Turkey .
Continuous use of the European route is not possible to this day (as of 2014), as the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia or the internationally unrecognized Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding occupied Azerbaijani territory have been closed as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict since the beginning of the 1990s. The road is therefore interrupted in two places and, especially in the conflict region, there is no maintenance for large sections.
