The M2 | |
The M2 is one of the most important highways in Azerbaijan . The road runs in an east-west direction through the center of the country, from the capital Baku via Gəncə to the border with Georgia .
history
The M2 was part of the main road between Baku and Tbilisi during the Soviet Union and was extended by bypasses in the 1970s and 1980s , as this route was of great importance for through traffic. The part in Baku was modernized between 2006 and 2008 and turned into a motorway . There is also a short inner-city road tunnel . In 2009 the border crossing to Georgia was expanded and modernized.
