Yevlax , German also Jewlach (from Russian Евлах ; English transcription Yevlakh ) is a city in Azerbaijan .
geography
The city has district status and is itself surrounded by the Yevlax district ( rayon ) . In 2014, about 59,400 people lived in the city near the Kura River .
economy
The city is a major hub of the Azerbaijani railway . In Yevlax there are tobacco and silk processing plants and a large flour mill. There is also an airfield , but it is not used very much.
traffic
With the opening of the corresponding section of the oldest railway line in the country, the Poti – Baku railway , Yevlax was connected to the railway in 1883. The city's train station is now a branch station for the Yevlax – Balakan railway lines in the north and Yevlax – Şuşi in the south. The latter route is only operated as far as Bərdə , since its southern end is in Nagorno-Karabakh .
Culture
Yevlax has a theater and a recently built mosque .
