Location of Ağdaş in Azerbaijan

Ağdaş (also Agdash ) is a rayon in Azerbaijan . The capital is the city of Ağdaş . The name means "white stone" and is derived from the white stone of the mountains there.

geography

The rayon has an area of ​​1048 km². The landscape belongs in the south to the lowlands of the Kura River , which forms the southwestern border, and in the north to the southern flank of the great Caucasus , the Bozdag Mountains , which reach up to 700 m high. Another major river in the district is the Türyançay . The Türyançay National Park is located in the rayon . About 100 km² of the area are forested.

economy

The region is dominated by agriculture. Mainly cotton is grown. There is also a food processing industry, material factories, a mechanical engineering industry and forestry is also important. The main gas pipeline runs through the rayon.

population

The population is 98% Azerbaijanis . Other ethnic groups are Lezgins , Kurds and Tāt . The district had 98,300 inhabitants in 2009.

Attractions

Several 19th-century monuments exist in the region, as well as the ruins of the Surkhaygalasi fortress.
