Ağsu (also Aqsu ) is a rayon in Azerbaijan . The capital is the city of Ağsu . The name means "white water".

geography

The rayon has an area of ​​1020 km². The landscape in the north belongs to the southern flank of the Great Caucasus , there are the mountains Niaylgad, Gingar and Lenkebiz as well as the Agsu Pass. The Shirvan steppe joins in the south. Major rivers in the district are the Ağsu and Ayramchay.

economy

The region is dominated by agriculture. Cotton, grain and wine are grown and cattle are raised. There is a food processing industry, e.g. B. dairies and wineries as well as snake farms. In addition, silk is processed in the region, as the Silk Road also runs through the rayon.

Attractions

The old and famous Giz-galasi tower is located in the region. Also near the village of Bazavand are the ruins of the 18th century city of New Shemakha. The grave of Ag Gumbaz can be found southwest of the capital.
