Location of the Tovuz Rayon in Azerbaijan

Tovuz is a rayon in western Azerbaijan . The capital of the district is the city of Tovuz . The district borders Georgia to the north and Armenia to the south .

geography

The district has an area of ​​412 km². The region is mountainous in the south, where it merges into the Lesser Caucasus , and dominated by plains in the north. There are rich ore and precious metal deposits in the region , particularly gold .

population

In 2009, 157,400 people lived in the district. These are distributed over 113 settlements.

economy

The region is dominated by agriculture. Wine, vegetables, fruit and grain are grown and cattle is raised.

Culture

There are ancient cemeteries near Gazgulu, Vakhidli, Agdam, Alibeili, Yanakhli and Azadli. There are also a large number of mausoleums, fortresses and towers.
