Bərdə (Rayon)
Bərdə , also Barda , is a rayon in Azerbaijan . The capital is the city of Bərdə .
geography
The rayon has an area of 957 km². The landscape belongs to the lowlands of the Kura River, the Ter-Ter and Khachin rivers run through the area. The Tugai Forests lie along the Kura River.
population
The rayon had about 142,100 inhabitants in 2009. Many refugees from the area live in the city and region because of its proximity to Nagorno-Karabakh .
economy
The region is dominated by agriculture. Mainly cotton , grain and wine are grown and cattle and poultry are raised. There is also a food processing industry, especially dairy, textile and silk production. Clay and gravel are extracted.
Personalities
The poet and linguist Sadallah al-Bardali comes from the region .
