Sabirabad (Rayon)
Sabirabad is a rayon in Azerbaijan . The capital of the district is the city of Sabirabad .
geography
The rayon has an area of 1469 km². The landscape belongs to the Mugan steppe in the south and to the Shirvan steppe in the north . The Kura and Aras rivers flow through the rayon and their confluence is also here.
population
The district had 151,100 inhabitants in 2009. These are spread over 16 settlements.
economy
In the region mainly cotton and fruit are grown and cattle are raised. There are also some industrial companies that process the agricultural products.
Culture
At the confluence of the Kura and Aras rivers, remains of two cities have been found during excavations. In the city of Sabirabad itself are the remains of the pir Baba Samid shrine.
