Oğuz is a rayon in Azerbaijan . The district's capital bears the same name .

geography

The district has an area of ​​1077 km². The region lies on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus and is partially forested. North of the district is the the Russian Federation belonging to Dagestan .

population

In 2009 40,200 people lived in the rayon. These are spread over 37 settlements, 16 nationalities live here. The largest group are the Azerbaijanis , followed by the Lesgians and the mountain Jews .

economy

The economy is dominated by agriculture. In addition to cattle breeding, grain, cotton, tobacco and fruit are grown.
