Göyçay , also Goychay , is a rayon in Azerbaijan . The capital of the district is the city of Göyçay .

geography

The rayon has an area of ​​736 km². The region is located in the center of Azerbaijan in the steppe of Shirvan . In the north there are foothills of the Greater Caucasus , in the south the lowlands of the Kura-Aras lowlands . The country is bordered by the Upper Shirvan Canal and the Göyçay River flows through the area.

population

The district had 108,800 inhabitants in 2009. These are spread across the capital and 55 other places.

economy

The region is rural. There are cotton , grain , wine grown and fruit, and operated livestock. Furthermore, silkworms are bred. The cultivation of pomegranates is also important.
