The M5 is a trunk road in Azerbaijan . The road leads in a north-westerly direction in the north of the country from Yevlax to the border with Georgia at Balakən .
history
The northern part of the M5 was originally numbered as A315 north of Şəki . The part between Yevlax and Şəki was numbered as A316. These street numbers originated from the times of the Soviet Union . Both sections were renumbered as M5 in 2008. The M5, together with the Georgian S5, is an alternative route from Baku to Tbilisi .
