Peter Winder

Peter Winder (born May 26, 1896 in Wolfurt , † March 4, 1964 in Bürs ) was an Austrian politician, machinist and chief insurance inspector. From 1934 to 1938 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1945 to 1949 mayor of the municipality of Bürs.

education and profession

Winder graduated from the five-class elementary school in Wolfurt and worked in the embroidery trade from 1910. During the First World War from 1915 to 1918 he served with the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger Regiment in Galicia and on the southern front. After his return from the war, he returned to work as an embroiderer from 1919 on, temporarily also working in Switzerland. In 1923 he became an electrical machinist at Getzner, Mutter & Cie in Bludenz and was subsequently active there until 1945. In 1945 he entered the service of the Vienna Swap Insurance Company as a full-time civil servant .

Politics and functions

In 1934, Winder was appointed as a representative of the industry and mining profession by the Vorarlberg governor to become a member of the state parliament. He was a member of the state parliament during the period of the corporate state and Austrofascism from November 14, 1934 until the annexation of Austria on March 12, 1938 and was a member of the economic committee in the 1934/35 session. He joined the Austrian resistance movement in 1942 and served as local and district chairman until its dissolution in 1945. After the Second World War, Winder also took over the office of mayor of Bürs from 1945 to 1949.

Winder or board member of the district health insurance fund Bludenz, where he was a member of the board of directors from 1936 to 1938 after it merged to form the Vorarlberger regional health insurance fund. He was also a member of the Christian trade union as well as regional representative of the metal and electrical industry and 24 years member of the Harmoniemusik Bürs.

Private

Peter Winder was born the son of the machinist Josef Anton Winder (1867–1916) and his wife Maria Anna Bär (1867–1943). He married on October 17, 1921 in Bürs Maria Kreszentia Steu (1893–1969), with no children arising from the marriage.
