States :

The European route 20 (E 20) is a European long-distance connection from Shannon Airport in Ireland to Saint Petersburg in Russia . Other countries that will be passed are Great Britain , Denmark , Sweden and Estonia . The European route is 1,880 km long and is connected at several points by ferry lines. However, there is no ferry connection for vehicles between the section in Great Britain and that in Denmark, so the connection is interrupted here.

The bridge over the Great Belt and the Øresund Bridge are spectacular bridges .

Ireland

The first section of the E20 runs on the N18 from Shannon Airport to Dublin via Limerick and is approximately 228 km long. The Europastraße is only partially signposted along the M7 / N7. The section between Shannon Airport and Limerick is mainly an expressway. The section from Limerick to Port Laoise has been signposted as the M7 motorway since the end of 2010. The section between Port Laoise and Naas is the motorway (M7), the last section between Naas and Dublin is again the expressway (N7). There is a ferry service between Dublin and Liverpool .

Great Britain

The second section of the E20 in Great Britain initially runs jointly with the A5080 from Liverpool to Huyton . Between Huyton and South Cave it runs together with the M62 and in the last section then together with the A63 to Kingston upon Hull .

Denmark

In Denmark the E20 runs as a motorway from Esbjerg to the Öresund Bridge . The length of the Danish part is 315 km. It runs over the Storebæltsbroen , which consists of two parts, each 6 km long. The Storebæltsbroen and Öresund Bridge are toll roads, both of which are more than € 30. On the Danish side, a 4 km long tunnel leads to the 8 km long Øresund Bridge. The road crosses the border between Denmark and Sweden on the bridge.

Sweden

The E20 leads over the Öresund Bridge to Malmö and Lund and from there on to the northwest towards Gothenburg . From Gothenburg it then heads north-east to Stockholm . The Baltic Sea is crossed there by ferry . The E20 then continues its route in Tallinn .

Estonia and Russia

The last two sections of the E20 run through Estonia and Russia. The distance from Tallinn to Saint Petersburg is 360 km. Above all, the road is a completely normal road, on the stretch from Tallinn to the Russian border near Narva , which is partially developed as a motorway , it forms an Estonian national road ( Põhimaantee 1 ). The main problem with this route are the Russian border controls in Ivangorod , which are not adequately equipped for the heavy traffic. This is particularly the case with heavy commercial vehicles, which sometimes have to wait days before they are allowed to continue, but it also runs faster on days with little traffic. In Russia, the route runs jointly with the Russian A180 trunk road .
