history
Ringsted is one of the oldest urban settlements in Denmark. In the Middle Ages, the place was to a certain extent the capital of Zealand , as the Landesthing was located here. Even if the Zeeland law was not valid in Jutland or Scania , Ringsted was at times the central location for all of Denmark.
On January 7, 1131, Duke Knud Lavard was murdered in nearby Haraldsted by his cousin Magnus, the son of the then King Niels . He was buried in the Ringsteder Church, which developed into an important place of pilgrimage after his canonization in 1170.
After kingship made the cathedral city of Roskilde and later Copenhagen its most important center, Ringsted remained a provincial town despite its central location on the island.
Buildings
The Romanesque - Gothic St. Bendts Church from the 12th century with valuable frescoes, in which royal tombs are housed, as in the cathedral of Roskilde, is worth seeing . It is one of the oldest brick buildings in Denmark.
The amusement park Fantasy World was located near Ringsted and was bought by BonBon-Land in 2006 and moved to Holme-Olstrup .

The airfield Ringsted ( Danish Ringsted Flyveplads ; ICAO code EKRS ) is located about 2 kilometers southeast of the town of Ringsted and has a 733-meter-long runway of grass. On the north side of the airfield is a concrete helipad with a diameter of 15 meters.
