The European route 012 (short: E 012 ) is a trunk road in the southeast of Kazakhstan . It leads from Almaty in a north-easterly direction to Chorgos on the border with the People's Republic of China . In Chorgos there is a connection to the Lianyungang – Khorgas (G30) motorway. They are both parts of the Asian Highway 5 ( Shanghai - Istanbul ) in the Asian Highway Project .
