The European route 73 (short: E 73 ) starts as M6 near Pécs in Hungary and runs along the Danube towards Osijek in Croatia . It will then be continued as the A5 in eastern Croatia. In the further course in the direction of Svilaj ( Bosnia ) the E 73 will be continued as A1 after the border crossing in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Via Zenica , Sarajevo and Mostar it leads to the Metković border crossing, where it then leads back to Croatia. At Ploče this motorway ends temporarily. The mentioned motorways in the course of the E 73 have a number of gaps in development.

Motorway exit Ilijas (direction Zenica)

The A1 is a planned or so far only partially completed or under construction motorway in Bosnia and Herzegovina . The motorway was to be built from Zenica to Mostar via Sarajevo between 2009 and 2014, with the section between Jablanica and Mostar initially only being expanded as a semi-motorway. In this section alone there will be 38 tunnels, some of them very long (over 3000 m to 6500 m). The highway between Zenica and Tarčin is in operation.

The motorway has been subject to tolls since April 2008.
