  • Under construction
  • In planning
  • The A1 ( Bosnian Autoput ) is a partially completed motorway in Bosnia and Herzegovina . Due to the complicated topography , the proportion of necessary engineering structures is very high. This also includes long tunnels, the longest will be the Prenj tunnel at 6,500 m. After completion, the motorway will make the journey from Hungary / Eastern Croatia to the Adriatic much shorter.

    meaning

    Motorway exit Sarajevo-Ilijaš (direction Zenica)

The A1 is part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor Vc , which runs as a side corridor of the Pan-European Transport Corridor V ( Kiev - Venice ) from Budapest to South Dalmatia .

The transport corridor is implemented in Hungary by the M6 and in eastern Croatia ( Slavonia ) by the A5 . These are continued in the A1, which in turn merges into the Croatian A10 in the south .

    toll

A toll has been charged for driving on the motorway on the section from Lučani to Jošanica listed below. The toll can be paid in cash, in local or foreign currency, with credit cards, by bank transfer or via a contactless electronic payment system (ACC). In addition, the rules of the toll system on motorways, expressways or facilities with collection from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina grant certain groups of vehicles free use. This decision applies to vehicles of the Ministry of the Interior, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Armed Forces and the Red Cross.

    Route

The A1 runs in a north-south direction through Bosnia and Herzegovina. It largely follows the route of the M17 main road along the rivers Bosna and Neretva . The motorway passes the important cities of Doboj , Zenica , Sarajevo and Mostar , among others . South of the state border, it has merged with the A10 motorway at the Croatian border since the end of 2013 and establishes the connection to the A1 there.

The A1 is also an important part of the future Sarajevo bypass .

    Construction progress

Bridge of the A1 over the Bosna near Visoko

The government of Bosnia and Herzegovina has decided that the motorway from Zenica to Mostar via Sarajevo should be built between 2009 and 2014, with the section between Jablanica and Mostar initially only being expanded as a semi-motorway. In this section alone there will be 38 tunnels, some of them very long (over 3000 m to 6500 m).

The Sarajevo bypass had been under construction since 2007 and was completed in June 2014. At the end of 2009 / beginning of 2010 the construction of the sections Kakanj – Bilješevo (approx. 9 km) and Bilješevo-Drivuša (Zenica-South) (approx. 4 km) began. The second section consists mainly of the Vijenac tunnel (2964 m). This part of the motorway was also completed at the end of 2014 and has been in operation since then. At the end of 2011, the construction of the southernmost section Kravice-Bijača on the Croatian border began and was completed between July / August 2014. In 2013, construction began on the northern section between Svilaj on the Croatian border and Odžak.

The total length of the sections in operation and under construction is thus 87.8 km (from 2015: 167.8 km).

    Under construction

The following section of the A1 is currently being developed: Svilaj - Odžak. On September 30, 2014, the Zenica-jug – Zenica-sjever line was opened for construction. On November 22, 2019, construction work began on the Počitelj-Zvirovići section (approx. 10 km).

    Length of the tunnel

Tunnel length in sections I and II: 30.837 km (construction lots I-V)
Tunnel length in sections III: 33.8 km
Tunnel length in sections IV: 9.7 km
