The Vijenac tunnel , also known as the “1. mart “ (German: Tunnel of March 1st ) is an approximately three kilometer long tunnel on the A1 motorway in Bosnia and Herzegovina and part of the pan- European traffic corridor Vc .
description
The structure is the core of the 4 km long section of the A1 between Kakanj near Bilješevo and Zenica .
The tunnel has two tubes that are 2962 meters long and each have two lanes. As safety equipment, there are connecting tunnels between the two tunnel tubes for evacuating pedestrians at a distance of 250 meters. Every 1,000 meters there is access for maintenance and rescue vehicles (two in total). The tunnel is equipped with modern communication and safety technology.
The technical management is based in the Center for Maintenance and Traffic Control (COKP) on Drivuša , where the project is also coordinated and managed.
construction
In November 2009 the tender for the construction of the tunnel was started. First, a construction contract was signed with the Slovenian company SCT worth 54 million euros. Completion should take place in August 2013. In mid-2010 the construction company's financial problems became known. At the beginning of February 2011 the construction contract was terminated by the operator; Bank guarantees in the amount of 11 million euros were included. The construction has now been awarded to the Slovenian construction company Primorje , which came second in the tender. The construction contract worth 62 million euros was signed in early May 2011. Completion should now take place within 33 months. After a year of construction, construction was stopped in June 2012 due to the bankruptcy of the construction company.
At the end of July 2012 it was announced that the construction contract with the subcontractors Hidrogradnja , Euroasfalt and ŽGP had been renegotiated. The construction work was limited to the penetration of the tubes; the contract value of the work was reduced to 18 million euros. Construction work resumed in August. In addition, the bank guarantees from the Slovenian construction company in the amount of 10 million euros were included. By the end of December 2012, 60% of the construction work had been completed.
On March 1, 2013, the breakthrough of both tubes was celebrated. At the same time, in January 2013, the tender for the implementation of the remaining construction work with a value of EUR 24 million was launched. In May 2013 the contract was signed with the consortium consisting of Euroasfalt doo Sarajevo and GP ŽGP dd Sarajevo . Completion was planned for March 2014, the handover of the tunnel including the section for mid-August 2014. The tunnel was opened to traffic on August 25, 2014.
