The Sarajevo bypass ( Bosnian Sarajevska zaobilaznica ) is a tangential road with a feeder road in the northwest of Sarajevo .

Components and routes

Tangential road

An essential part of the bypass is the 10 km long tangential road, which also forms a section of the A1 motorway . The bypass begins north of Sarajevo at Gornja Jošanica and leads over the Butila motorway junction to Vlakovo in the west of Sarajevo. The section from Gornja Jošanica to the Butila motorway triangle has two tunnels with a length of 270 m ( Ostrik tunnel ) and 400 m ( Ozega tunnel ) as well as the three bridge structures Ostrik (length 140 m), Riječica (length 90 m) and Reljevo (length 200 m). The Bojnik bridge structure (length 190 m) is located along the section from the Butila motorway triangle to the Vlakovo junction.

Feeder road

The feeder road connects the Butila motorway triangle with the western urban area of Sarajevo and at the same time forms the first section of the Sarajevo city motorway . It is about 4.5 km long and has, among other things, a viaduct with a length of 900 m, which leads over the railway facilities near the Rajlovac train station.

history

The Sarajevo bypass was built in three sections. The entire bypass was originally supposed to be completed by the end of 2014, but the completion of the city motorway was delayed.

The contract for the construction of the first section of the tangential road between Gornja Jošanica and the Butila motorway triangle was signed in 2005. Construction of the first section began on October 17, 2007. On October 16, 2008, the Ostrik tunnel was the first to be drilled through as part of the A1 and the bypass. The completion of the bypass was originally planned for July 30, 2010, but the deadline could not be met and was postponed several times. On February 7, 2011 the contract with the Slovenian construction company SCT was finally terminated. This was followed by a further invitation to tender and a contract was signed with the construction companies Strabag and HP Investing doo on April 24, 2012. The construction costs were estimated at 33 million convertible marks (corresponds to approx. 16.9 million euros ). Completion was set for October 31, 2012. In August 2012 it was planned to have the part from Gornja Jošanica to Butila implemented by the end of 2012. However, completion had to be postponed to 2013. April 2013 was set as the new date. This deadline could also not be kept. It was completed on May 22, 2013.

The contract for the construction of the feeder road from the Butila motorway triangle via Briješće to Stup with a length of around 4.5 kilometers was signed on February 6, 2008. Completion was planned for December 2013. However, completion was delayed until January 31, 2014.

In February 2012 the construction of the third section between the Butila motorway triangle and the western end of the construction at Vlakovo was commissioned. The third section was finally opened to traffic on June 26, 2014.
