Vukosavlje ( Serbian - Cyrillic Вукосавље ) is a place and the associated municipality (opština) in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina . It is located on the left bank of the Bosna at the transition from the Posavina to the Bosnian Central Mountains and consists of former parts of the neighboring municipality of Modriča and parts of Odžak that were separated during the Bosnian War by the entity border . Vukosavlje is part of the Republika Srpska .
geography
Vukosavlje is located northwest of Modriča and southwest of Odžak. The highest point in the municipality is at 368 m , while the banks of the Bosna are only 48 m .
The municipality includes the municipality parts Gnionica, Jakeš, Jezero, Jošavica, Kaluđer, Modrički Lug, Novo Selo and Pećnik as well as smaller parts of Srnava, Ada, Potočani and Vrbovac.
history
The districts of today's municipality Vukosavlje belonged to the union municipalities Modriča (Jakeš, Pećnik, Modrički Lug) and Odžak (Gnionica, Jošavica, Jezero) until the Bosnian War . The Vukosavlje settlement itself is a new establishment. The community was formally founded on September 8, 1996 as Srpski Odžak , but had to discard this name after a decision by the Bosnian Constitutional Court that banned ethnic references in place names.
population
At the 2013 census, the community had 4,667 inhabitants. Of these, 46.7% described themselves as Bosniaks , 32.5% as Serbs and 16.6% as Croatians . This made Vukosavlje the municipality in the Republika Srpska with the lowest Serbian population. Before the war, only Gnionica and Jošavica had a Serb majority. In contrast, Jakeš and Modrički Lug were mostly inhabited by Bosniaks and Novo Selo and Pećnik almost exclusively by Croats.
