Lukavac ( Cyrillic Лукавац) is a small town in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina . It is the main town and administrative seat of the municipality of the same name in the Tuzla canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina .
history
Settlement can be proven up to the Bronze Age. The name of the city was first mentioned in 1528, a distinction being made between Gornji (upper) and Donji (lower) Lukavac. In the Austrian census of 1885, the two parts are referred to as Lukavac turski (Turkish) and Lukavac srpski (Serbian).
Lukavac City was only slightly affected by the Bosnian War . Some places like Smoluća, however, were right on the front line and were largely destroyed.
geography
Lukavac is located in the Spreča valley between Tuzla and Doboj at an altitude of 186 m. The foothills of the three low mountain ranges Ozren (in the west), Konjuh (in the south) and Majevica (in the north) extend into the municipality . Between Lukavac and Tuzla there is the Modračko jezero reservoir , which with an area of 17 km² is one of the largest reservoirs in the country and attracts numerous water sports enthusiasts and anglers.
Neighboring municipalities are Banovići , Gračanica , Maglaj , Petrovo , Srebrenik , Tuzla , Zavidovići and Živinice .
