Novo Sarajevo ( Serbian - Cyrillic Ново Сарајево ; "New Sarajevo") is one of nine municipalities in the canton of Sarajevo and one of the four municipalities in the city of Sarajevo . It borders the municipalities of Sarajevo-Centar , Sarajevo-Novi Grad and the municipality of Vogošća , which is not part of Sarajevo. The area of the municipality is 11.43 km². Novo Sarajevo has 68,802 inhabitants (as of 2013).
history
Before the Bosnian War , the municipality had an area of 47.15 km² and 95,089 inhabitants. In terms of population, it was one of the largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Around 40% of the people were employed in industrial companies. Since the siege of Sarajevo , the economy has been in shambles. Ten years after the Dayton Accords , the community began restructuring its economy, rebuilding the destroyed facilities and privatizing it.
The municipality of Novo Sarajevo consists of the following settlement areas: Pofalići I, Pofalići II, Velešići, Gornji Velešići, Željeznička, Dolac, Malta, Čengić Vila I, Kvadrant, Čengić Vila II, Hrasno, Hrasno Brdo, Trg Heroja, Grbavica I, Kovačići and Gornji Kovačići.
After the Dayton Agreement was signed, the smaller part of the municipality of Novo Sarajevo became part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina , while the larger part today belongs to the Republika Srpska as Istočno Novo Sarajevo .

economy
Before the Bosnian War , Novo Sarajevo was one of the wealthiest and most progressive communities in the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina . In the war, however, almost all industrial facilities were destroyed, which is why the economy completely collapsed. The economy has largely recovered to this day, and Novo Sarajevo can again be counted as one of the more affluent communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
