Čelinac ( Serbian - Cyrillic Челинац ) is a small town in the Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the capital of the municipality of the same name .
geography
Čelinac is located in the Vrbanja valley about 12 km southeast of Banja Luka . The 362 km² large municipal area is hilly and predominantly forested. From the deepest point at the mouth of the Jošavka in the Vrbanja, the terrain in the south ( Uzlomac Mountains ) rises to 759 m.
Neighboring municipalities are Banja Luka, Kneževo , Kotor Varoš , Laktaši , Prnjavor and Teslić .
history
There are some remains of Illyrian settlements in the municipality. The main town of Čelinac developed at the end of the 16th century.
population
At the time of the 1991 census, the municipality of Čelinac had 18,713 inhabitants, of whom 16,554 (88.5%) were Serbs , 1,446 (7.7%) were Bosniaks , 377 (2.0%) were Yugoslavs and 76 (0.4 %) called Croatians .
4,857 people lived in the main town, including 3,450 (71.0%) Serbs, 1,005 (20.7%) Bosniaks, 234 (4.8%) Yugoslavs and 51 (1.1%) Croats.
The municipality comprises a total of 30 places, which are grouped into 17 local communities ( mjesne zajednice ): Balte, Basići, Branešci Donji, Branešci Gornji, Brezičani, Crni Vrh, Čelinac, Čelinac Gornji, Dubrava Nova, Dubrava Stara, Grabovac, Jošavka Donja, Jošavka Gornja, Kablovi, Kamenica, Lađevci, Lipovac, Markovac, Mehovci, Memići, Miloševo, Opsječko, Popovac, Skatavica, Šahinovići, Šnjegotina Donja, Šnjegotina Srednja, Šnjegotina Veljiika, Štrbe and Vija.

traffic
The M4 main road (Banja Luka – Teslić – Doboj) runs in the Vrbanja valley . The Banja Luka – Doboj railway crosses the municipality in a west-east direction.
