from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manfred Coppik (born November 1, 1943 in Bromberg ; † September 21, 2016 in Offenbach am Main ) was a German politician and lawyer. From 1972 to 1983 he was a member of the Bundestag for the SPD . From 2008 to 2012 he was deputy state chairman of the party Die Linke in Hessen.

Origin and education

Manfred Coppik was born on November 1, 1943 in Bromberg, the son of a senior teacher. His mother was of Polish descent. He grew up in the Silesian Waldenburg , where he finished the German-language elementary school in 1957 . 1958 moved the family to West Germany. In 1963 he passed the Abitur in Offenbach am Main and then studied law at the University of Frankfurt . After the Second State Examination in 1971, he settled in Offenbach as a lawyer.

Political career

In 1961, Coppik joined the SPD. In 1965 he was - for a year - chairman of the Young Socialists in Offenbach, from 1968 to 1969 he sat on the district board of the Jusos of Hessen-Süd. In 1972, Coppik won a Bundestag mandate for the SPD in the Offenbach constituency in Hesse. In 1982 he resigned from the party to protest the NATO double resolution and founded the Democratic Socialists together with Karl-Heinz Hansen and other dissatisfied people . Coppik kept his direct mandate in the Bundestag until the elections in 1983. In the state elections in Hesse in 1983 , he ran for the Democratic Socialists in the Offenbach Land II constituency , where he achieved 0.4% of the vote.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Coppik was active as a national spokesman in the peace list , with the Greens , the PDS and, from 1993, again in the SPD. About his motives for returning to the SPD, he said:

“I rejoined the SPD because in the local elections in 1993 in the neighboring electoral district, the Republicans became the strongest party. Only the SPD offered a relative mass basis for the political debate. "

In 1999 Coppik resigned from the Social Democrats for the second time because of the Bundeswehr's mission in Kosovo ; in 2005 he joined the WASG , where he had already worked and later brought the association with the PDS on the way.

At its Hessian state party conference in August 2008 in Lollar , which was in the media public because of the possible tolerance of a minority government by the SPD and the Greens, the Left Party elected Coppik as one of two deputy state chairmen. He held this position until 2012. In the Hessian state elections in 2009, Coppik ran as a direct candidate of the left in constituency 43 Offenbach-Stadt , where he received 6.2% of the first votes. He was a member of the council of elders of the party Die Linke. In addition, since the local elections in 2016 he has been for the Left parliamentary group in Offenbach's city parliament, and in June he moved to the honorary magistrate . He held this office from 1968 to 1972 and 1989 to 1990.
