Tom Strohschneider (* 1974 in East Berlin ) is a German journalist . From August 1, 2012 to the end of 2017, he was editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Neues Deutschland .

Life

Strohschneider was born in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain as the son of psychologists and describes his growing up in the GDR as a “niche existence” in which “a lot of politicization” and a lot of reading was done. He experienced the fall of the Berlin Wall and unification as a youth and perceived the problems of the GDR before the fall of the Wall as the “crunch of a transition society”. Strohschneider studied modern and contemporary history , art theory ( aesthetics ), political science and sociology at the Humboldt University of Berlin and at times at the University of Graz .

From 2000 he completed a traineeship at the daily newspaper Neues Deutschland and then rose as a domestic editor to deputy head of department.
