Radio FREI (Freier Rundfunk Erfurt International) is a free radio in Erfurt.

history

It was created in the summer of 1990 in the vicinity of the Erfurt citizens' movement as the first free radio in Thuringia and one of the first free radios in the GDR . Radio FREI broadcast its first program on September 29, 1990. Due to the lack of a legal basis, it was considered a pirate station at that time .

On May 28, 1999, Radio FREI was approved by the Thuringian State Media Authority (TLM) and broadcast 74 hours of programming on the terrestrial VHF frequency 96.2 MHz per week until the end of May 2015. Radio FREI has been broadcasting a full program since June 1, 2015 and can be heard in Erfurt from Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and all day on weekends on VHF 96.2 and in the live stream.

Radio FREI is a member of the Federal Association of Free Radios (BFR). As a non-commercial local radio station , it does not advertise in the program and is open to access within the framework of an editorial status. The entire radio program is created on a voluntary basis. Radio FREI is organized in the legal form of a non-profit association and is financed through membership fees and proportional funding from the radio fees .

Programs in foreign languages

Fixed program items in the foreign language offer are a Russian information program and the Africa magazine "African Spirit". Radio FREI has also broadcast Esperanto since January 2012 . Show title: Turingio Internacia . Since July 2015 there is also a Latin program called Erfordia Latina .
