from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Federal Association of Free Radios (BFR) is the umbrella organization of free radios and radio initiatives in Germany.

The BFR was founded in Hattingen at the end of 1993 and currently has 31 members. It accompanies current media policy critically and represents the interests of free radios vis-à-vis the state media authorities . The association is based at Radio CORAX in Halle (Saale) and has been a member of the Community Media Forum Europe (CMFE) since 2010 . BFR joined AMARC Europe in 2012 . The last BFR congress took place from November 23 to 26, 2017 at the Freie Sender Kombinat in Hamburg. The BFR supports the (program) exchange of the free radios through the provision of mailing lists and as operator of the exchange platform for radio reports frei-radios.net and in the past through the critical support of the news magazine zip-fm .

free-radios.net

The BFR is the operator of the exchange platform for radio broadcasts freie-radios.net, which was conceptually developed between July 1997 and October 1998 and went public in 2001. There are around 80,000 radio programs on the server that can be listened to immediately, downloaded and - in accordance with the CC license - broadcast from other radio stations. The contributions can also be presented by third parties via a documented xml interface.

Once a year, the BFR invites active members from its member radio stations as well as from other associations and initiatives to a working and exchange meeting lasting several days. This takes place every year on a different member radio.

zip-fm

The jointly produced news magazine zip-fm existed from July 1, 2002 to July 31, 2014. The joint editorial project was accompanied and promoted at the BFR congresses. Despite controversial discussions, the regular information magazine in German-speaking countries started in 2002 with a half-hour, moderated show every Tuesday to Friday.
