coloRadio is a free radio in Dresden that has been broadcasting since July 8, 1993. The radio is operated by the Radioinitiative Dresden eV as a self-administered project. coloRadio is a member of the Federal Association of Free Radios . The coloRadio studio has been in the central plant in Dresden- Pieschen since December 10, 2016 .

program

The airtime at coloRadio is filled by the four editorial groups “Art & Culture”, “Magazine”, “Music” and “Politics”. These editorial groups are comparable to the departments of the professional broadcasters and in turn consist of individual editorial teams. In addition, there is free airtime that can also be used by newcomers at short notice. Each editorial team acts autonomously. The only guideline are the principles of free radio . There are no editors-in-chief and no editorial managers. Editorial decisions, e.g. B. Airtime distribution or the inclusion of new editorial teams are made at the monthly and public editorial group meetings or at the monthly and public general editorial meetings. The monthly general assemblies are responsible for non-editorial decisions.

Members of the editorial groups are the individual editors who design the respective programs. As a non-commercial radio, the individual editorial offices consist largely of journalistic laypeople, whose advantage, however, is that they are sometimes deeply anchored in the local political or cultural scene. That is why the programs are often technically in need of improvement, but the content is demanding.

Editorial work is not paid for at coloRadio. This is intended to preserve the content-related independence of the editors from donors.

coloRadio sees itself as a local Dresden station, which, however, maintains a lively exchange with other free radio stations at home and abroad. For this purpose, the official broadcast exchange portal of the Federal Association of Free Radios is used.

reception

From July 8, 1993 to February 28, 2007, coloRadio broadcast four hours a week on Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. on 100.2 MHz, a 5- kilowatt frequency that was normally used by Energy Sachsen . A legal dispute lasting more than ten years resulted in an extension of the transmission time to 49 hours per week, albeit with a significantly lower transmission power.

Since March 1st 2007 coloRadio is from

  • Monday to Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and
  • Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

on VHF over the frequencies:

  • 98.4 MHz (transmitter Gompitz , 50 watt) and
  • 99.3 MHz ( Freital transmitter , 100 watts)

to recieve. Outside these broadcast times, these frequencies are used by Apollo radio . The power of the transmitters is quite low, so that coloRadio can only be received well in the western districts of Dresden and Freital. Alternatively, there is a live stream as Ogg Vorbis or MP3 .

From April 17 to May 13, 2010, coloRadio was only available as a live stream due to a dispute over the payment of the transmission and line costs.
