Pi Radio is a non-commercial free radio from Berlin . The terrestrial radio program in Berlin and Potsdam can be received on the VHF frequencies 88.4 MHz and 90.7 MHz and on the Internet also via live stream.

history

The story of Pi Radio begins in the early 1990s. Some of the broadcasters who are still active at Pi Radio today started with pirate radio.

In 1995, on the initiative of the regional association of independent radios Berlin-Brandenburg, the association Pi-Radio e. V. founded - an association of various free radio groups, cultural initiatives and interested individuals. Founding groups were u. a. Radio Kabelbrand, Radio P, Radio 100,000, Klangwerk and former employees of Radio 100 and DT64 .

Until the end of 1995, Pi-Radio broadcast a weekly four-hour block on the Berlin Open Canal . In October 1995 the association organized the Berlin Independent Radio Nights (BURN), a 48-hour model program on the event frequency 94.8 MHz, combined with concerts in 11 Berlin clubs. In 1996 and in the spring of 1997 Pi-Radio organized radio events in public places where the program content and working methods of free radios were presented. In the new millennium, Pi-Radio took part in the campaign for a free radio, held cultural events, panel discussions, signature collections and parties.

Since the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (MABB) will not be granting an independent broadcast license to a free radio in Berlin-Brandenburg in the foreseeable future, several event licenses have been obtained from the Piradio e. V. and the initiative Radiopiloten initiated, applied for and carried out.
