The Association of Free Radios Austria (VFRÖ) is the association and the representation of interests of non-commercial free radios in Austria . The VFRÖ was founded in 1993 and currently has 15 members.

aims
The goals are:
- Legal recognition in the Private Radio Act and the KommAustria Act as a separate category
- Establishment of a "free radio fund", which is fed from that part of the broadcasting fees that does not flow to the ORF ("fee splitting")
- Triales broadcasting system in public, private-commercial and non-profit independent broadcasters must be reflected in the structure of the media authority as well as in the licensing. Priority when issuing licenses if necessary.
- Journalistic equality of the employees of independent radio stations
- Co-determination and comments on the drafting of laws, legislative changes and international contracts that affect the media and telecommunications
CBA
The VFRÖ operates the media library CBA - Cultural Broadcast Archive . With around 100,000 audio contributions (as of July 2019), it is one of the largest audio archives for radio in the German-speaking area. Participants are stations from Austria, Germany ( Alex Berlin , PI Radio ) and independent projects.
