Free Radio Salzkammergut (FRS) is an Austrian radio station .

Story and content

Since March 31, 1999, around 130 broadcasters have been creating more than 60 programs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and in various languages. In addition to these programs in open access, the FRS produces an information magazine, a daily event calendar and various project-related formats.

With open access and several training opportunities, Free Radio is a place of learning for imparting journalistic, technical and social skills. The FRS program is a 24-hour full program, represents a journalistic addition to regional reporting and makes a contribution to the diversity of opinion and media in the Salzkammergut .

Information is produced according to the "bottom-up" principle and is anchored by the radio makers in the individual locations and small regions. This direct form of reporting promotes participation, participation and self-empowerment of the population.

Since the beginning of May 2010, the radio has been operating an outdoor studio in the old state music school in Vöcklabruck - called "Radionest" by the editors. The Radionest offers low-threshold production conditions and consists of a broadcast studio and an editing room for editing contributions.

The FRS uses a network of seven transmission systems, has a technical range of around 240,000 people and an effective daily range of 6.2%. Installation, maintenance and modification of the transmitters are carried out in-house.

With the studio in Bad Ischl , the outdoor studio in Vöcklabruck, a radio room in Gmunden and broadcasting systems in Upper Austria , Salzburg and Styria , radio has developed into a cultural enterprise with integrative potential. Numerous collaborations with educational institutions, cultural associations and citizens' initiatives underline the development of the station.

Free Radio Salzkammergut is a member of the Association of Free Radios Austria (VFRÖ).
