The Free Radio Freistadt is an Austrian non-commercial radio station and sends since March 3, 2005 24 hours a day on the frequencies 107.1, 103.1 and 88.4 in the district of Freistadt and parts of neighboring districts in Upper Austria. According to the principle of open access, the program is organized voluntarily and independently by numerous associations and initiatives from the region. Freie Radio Freistadt currently brings around 70 different regionally produced programs on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. In addition, programs from the Czech Republic (for the first time continuously in Upper Austria), from Radius 106.6 (school radio in the Freiberg grammar school), from Linz radio FRO and other free radios are taken over. Since January 1, 2009, Freie Radio Freistadt has also taken over the German-language magazine from Radio Prague.

Every year around 1900 hours of editorial programs are produced in the region. A total of around 160 radio enthusiasts between the ages of 8 and 80 from a wide variety of areas work on the program on a voluntary basis. In addition to regional youth facilities, social initiatives, cultural associations and schools, it is above all numerous senior citizens who use the open access.

Free Radio Freistadt is a member of the Association of Free Radios Austria (VFRÖ) and the Community Media Forum Europe (CMFE).

Freie Radio Freistadt is a co-founder and partner of DORF TV GmbH, which has been approved for terrestrial, digital non-commercial TV under the name dorf in Upper Austria and has been on the air since June 22, 2010.

Awards

In 2010 the Free Radio Freistadt and the Free Radio Salzkammergut received the "Small State Prize for Initiative Cultural Work" from the Province of Upper Austria in recognition of their longstanding commitment to culture and media policy.
