LOHRO (acronym for Lo kalradio der H ansestadt Ro stock) is a radio station in the format of the editorially responsible interactive radio in Rostock . The non-commercial broadcaster is supported by various public institutions, among others. LOHRO is a member of the Federal Association of Free Radios .

After several trial runs, e.g. B. During the Hanse Sail , LOHRO went on the air on July 1st, 2005.

concept

Those involved in the creation and continuation of the station have made it their goal to offer local artists and new music styles a platform and to broadcast a program that stands out from mainstream radio. There are editorial offices for funk & soul, gender mainstream, rock zone, radio play, intercultural, jazz & blues, culture, literature, music, world music, drum & bass, ska, punk, metal, reggae, politics, satire, sport and the environment.

The program is based on the principle of editorially responsible hands-on radio. Anyone who qualifies for radio work can contribute to the program. There is a fixed program schedule and the broadcasts are not individually responsible, as is customary in the open channel, but the broadcaster stands for it as an overall unit. The program consists of three parts: 1. the daily program, which functions as an accompanying program, 2. the evening program with its special programs, and 3. the automated program at night and the periods that have not yet been edited. The evening program relies on special music programs that depict the city's music scene and are implemented by professional DJs and music lovers alike.

The station is supported by two associations: the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania cultural network as the license holder and the foerderverein.LOHRO , which promotes the station and organizes training and further education. The broadcaster makes its living from project funds from various organizations, membership fees from the clubs and sponsorship.

The program was initially licensed as a pilot project until 2010. On June 30, 2010, the media committee MV in Schwerin awarded the Kulturnetzwerk e. V. approved the license as a broadcaster according to RundfG MV and extended the existing 90.2 MHz frequency to LOHRO for 10 years from January 1, 2011.

At the beginning of 2014, when the renovation work was completed, LOHRO moved into the Frieda 23 art and media center . With the help of donations, a new, barrier-free studio was built. LOHRO itself is a shareholder in the non-profit KARO AG, which manages the building.
