Club and radio station

The Free Radio Desert Wave is an advertising-free station and sees itself as a medium of the counter-public with around 120 employees. The desert wave has been on the air since July 1995, the frequency has to share the desert wave with radio Helle Welle and the Uniwelle, but the desert wave has most of the broadcasting time. In 2003 the license was granted until 2011, in spring 2011 until 2015 and the non-profit status was extended by three years. More than 65% of the program consists of live broadcasts.

Projects

Through collaborations, media education projects on media literacy take place regularly at the station, such as the "EinMission Possible" project as an international youth democracy project in collaboration with the Free Radio BCB from Bradford, England.

Surfers

On January 1st and July 1st, Freie Radio publishes the current program, the "Wellenreiter", which is available free of charge in Tübingen and Reutlingen.

Funding and Membership

The radio is financed through grants and membership fees. The radio operation lives mainly from the voluntary work of the members and broadcasters. Free radio is made possible by a development association, which is mainly financed through membership fees, donations and state subsidies.
