Radio Unerhört Marburg (RUM) is a free radio, a non-commercial local radio station that can be received in Marburg and the surrounding area.
The transmission frequencies are: VHF 90.1 MHz (antenna, transmitter location: Telecommunications Tower Marburg ) and 100.15 MHz (cable). The broadcast studio is located in a former railway administration building on the same site as the Waggonhalle cultural center in Marburg . Since August 1, 2006, RUM has also been broadcasting via live stream on the Internet. Individual contributions and programs are also available as podcasts for download.
history
The initiative for free radio in Marburg came into being in May 1994 with the aim of representing left-wing positions beyond "mainstream radio ". To this day, the self-image has repeatedly led to internal disputes, for example in the fight to ban Wiglaf Droste from the program because of alleged sexism . After limited broadcasting phases (so-called event radio ) in 1995 and 1996, RUM has been broadcasting continuously since April 1997.
organization structure
RUM belongs to the Federal Association of Free Radios (BFR) and is a registered association with around 320 members.
The program is designed by numerous editorial offices, associations, initiatives and also individuals. These include some groups that produce programs in non-German.
financing
The station is largely financed by funds from the Hessian State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (LPR Hessen). This state media authority uses part of the portion of the license fee that it receives to support non-commercial media projects. The station is also financed through donations and membership fees.
Broadcast times
Radio Unerhört Marburg (RUM) broadcasts 24 hours a day. According to its own information, RUM has around 70-80 hours of live broadcasts per week. The rest of the air time is filled with recordings and reruns of the live broadcasts.
