history

The magazine was originally broadcast on the WBAI station in New York . Around 2001 it was temporarily only available through WFMU (under the name Democracy Now In Exile ) due to a conflict over the journalistic direction of WBAI . The broadcasting center was then moved to the Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV) in a former fire station in Chinatown (New York City). It was here that the magazine began being broadcast as a television program. In November 2009, the broadcast studio moved to a building in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan .

program

A one-hour issue of Democracy Now is published every day from Monday to Friday . The program usually begins with a ten-minute introductory part with short messages, also available in Spanish . This is followed by the main topics, mostly with guests and interviews. The program is not interrupted by commercial advertising ; Instead, there are two to three musical breaks in various styles, from folk songs à la Sara Thomsen's Is It For Freedom to rap tracks in the style of Public Enemys Fight The Power , which in the video version are often supplemented by clips that match the topic of the contribution.

The program is designed as a TV news magazine, but has a very large word content and is most widely distributed as a radio broadcast. Many NPR public radio stations broadcast Democracy Now .
