LORA Munich (the abbreviation stands for Lo kal ra dio) is a local radio station in Munich that sees itself as an alternative to private and public broadcasters. Although the station is organized under private law - and advertising is also allowed - LORA Munich, as a non-commercial and free radio , offers a platform for social, ecological, cultural and political issues, initiatives and organizations. The owners are the non-profit LORA program provider GmbH, in which the LORA Förderverein eV, the Laute Lora GbR and eight individuals are shareholders.

Structure and organization

Around 250 volunteers and around 50 associations and initiatives organize and design the program in 120 editorial offices. You are volunteering for the station. LORA's internal mouthpiece for employees and the coordination committee is the editorial conference.

The broadcasting license holder is the LORA program provider GmbH, a recognized non-profit organization . The LORA Förderverein, which is also non-profit, bears an important part of the daily operating costs. Various agreements between the GmbH and its committees, the development association and the editorial conference ensure that the program content is determined by the active employees themselves within the profile they have set themselves.

A daily magazine brings the latest news and interviews at 6 p.m., followed by articles from the editorial offices, which are distributed over the month according to weekday topics and at a weekly rhythm.

The editorial conference now takes place every month as a video conference, which is particularly likely to accommodate the participation of the surrounding area, because in addition to the topics of the city districts and the town hall, there is a broader orientation with "City-Country-River" and "News from the Province"; the "Arbeit-Brotzeit-Freizeit" (Work-Snack-Leisure) series brings together Verdi women and topics from working life; Thursday focuses on health and gender.

The broadcaster sees a further focus of the work in conducting a lively dialogue with the listeners, and offers live broadcasts with dial-in options for this purpose, e.g. B. the intercom system since 2001, first as a two-hour conversation broadcast on Fridays, now on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. with the opportunity to call the audience.

From 10pm onwards, after a short repetition of news, music editorships with currently growing bands and DJs from clubs, and the "beer areas" as a Bavarian sommelier program as "self-drivers" are at work, that is, with their own broadcast technology.

history

The preparatory work for LORA Munich goes back to the mid-1980s. Members of various Munich initiatives (tenants' initiatives and employees of local newspapers, trade unions and self-governing work collectives, later also of peace groups) formed a radio initiative, initially under the name of Bürgerradio Haidhausen .

The radio project presented itself to the public for the first time on April 17, 1986 as LORA Munich . The (first) LORA-Förderverein was founded in October 1986, the LORA-GmbH (owner of the broadcasting license) in February 1987.

The broadcast began on October 8, 1993 on VHF frequency 89.0 with a two-hour program, Monday to Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Legal contradictions by commercial radio broadcasters on this frequency had delayed the start of broadcasting by half a year - and on the first day of broadcasting (October 4, 1993), the broadcast was interrupted by an injunction. After about 20 minutes the first LORA broadcast was switched off and the previous provider was switched back to the frequency. It was not until October 8, 1993 that sending could really and definitely begin.

Half a year later, in the spring of 1994, the company switched to frequency 92.4 and has since shared the frequency with Radio Feierwerk (Saturday and Sunday) and other changing providers (initially Jazzwelle, later Relax FM, then with FAZ Businessradio , in the meantime) still AFK M94.5 and now two religious programs: Christian Radio Munich and Radio Horeb ).

The VHF frequency 92.4 was initially broadcast 3 hours a day (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.), then from August 2001 5 hours (7 p.m. to midnight) and since October 2004 Mon. – Fri. from 5 p.m. to midnight. Since the end of 2012, the program has also been broadcast on DAB + . Until May they broadcast Mon. – Fri. around the clock and 10 hours on Sunday. With effect from May 2017, the transmission times on FM and DAB + were redistributed by the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM), which led to a reduction in DAB + transmission times and a shift in FM transmission times (confusing for listeners). Between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., broadcasts are only broadcast on FM, but not on DAB +.

LORA Munich broadcasted from Pariserstrasse until around 2000, then from a broadcasting studio on Gravelottestrasse. In 2015 the station moved to the new premises at Schwanthalerstraße 81.

Broadcast times and reception

LORA Munich broadcasts on FM 92.4 MHz ( cable : digital in DVB-C standard in the extended FM transmission area ). Monday to Thursday 4:00 p.m. to midnight and Friday 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The transmission times are slightly different on DAB + channel 11C:

LORA can be heard digitally via DAB + Monday to Friday from 1:00 am to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to midnight, as well as a 24-hour live stream in Ogg-Vorbis and MP3 formats on its homepage.

Editorial offices and program scheme

Citizen radio, community radio: In many countries the citizen radio is a funded means of democracy, in Bavaria we are encouraged in CSU-style as "private radio" to blast you with advertising in order to finance us. That is why we have our friends' association, and whoever has a new membership gets a dinner of their choice from me. Radio Lora Munich has a large number of editorial offices that generally contribute a program between 4pm and midnight once a month / quarter: https://lora924.de/?page_id=36 (as of July 2020)
