M94.5 is an offer from Mediaschool Bayern and a radio broadcaster for basic and advanced training in Munich . The station gives young media professionals the chance to design their own radio program. In 2018 it was decided to relocate it together with the television station afk TV under the Mediaschool Bayern label .
The training and further education radio M94.5 broadcasts a mostly live 24-hour radio program in Munich via DAB + , which is mainly created in cooperation with students from the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich and other Munich universities. The program format is a mixture of campus radio, local and scene programs. The main musical elements are alternative rock, independent pop and electro pop. Young up-and-coming authors, composers and interpreters are offered a forum to present their productions to an urban audience.
history
founding
The idea of establishing one's own training and further education channels and thus meeting the demand of prospective journalists and radio technicians for professional media work was first implemented in Germany in 1996. On the initiative of the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM), which, with the establishment of the non-profit training company afk - Aus und Fortbildungs GmbH for electronic media (afk GmbH) in April 1995, laid the foundation for the commissioning of the three programs afk M94.5 (Radio Munich) , afk max (Radio Nuremberg) and afk tv (television in Munich), the afk project sees itself as an “innovative training platform for competent young media talent”. The afk GmbH provides the necessary technology and funding for this work, organizes and supports the personnel, financial and administrative infrastructure, looks after and accompanies the work on a conceptual and program level and plans and coordinates marketing and PR activities. Afk GmbH is a member of MedienCampus Bayern , the umbrella organization for media education and training in Bavaria.
AFK as part of the Mediaschool Bayern
22 years after the founding of the training and further education channels (AFK), the concept and content were geared towards digital media.
- AFK Aus und Fortbildungs GmbH for electronic media was renamed to: Mediaschool Bayern gGmbH in summer 2018
- The provider association AFK Munich was renamed in the summer of 2018 to: Mediaschool Bayern Anbieterverein München eV
The radio station "afk M94.5" now bears the name "M94.5" and is offered by Mediaschool Bayern.
Teaching desk
The teaching desk is like running a local radio station with various departments, members of the editorial team, a chief on duty (CvD), an editor on duty (RvD), moderators and news anchors. Anyone who is in training can take part in M94.5 - regardless of whether they are pupils, trainees or students. Most of the editorial staff are students from Munich colleges and universities. You will initially work for two semesters in one of the day teams and in a department, then as a freelancer and finally as a moderator, program manager or in other areas.
society
The program is run by the non-profit M94.5 - Hörfunkverein München e. V. is responsible. A number of training institutions and media companies from the southern Bavarian region have come together to give their students and trainees the opportunity to work on M94.5. Media education initiatives and youth associations also have regular broadcasting slots.
reception
M94.5 can be received via:
- DAB + : Kanal 11C (Munich and parts of southern Bavaria)
- Live stream on the broadcaster's homepage in two formats and three qualities
By order of the BLM , the Munich VHF frequency 94.50 MHz was withdrawn from M94.5 from September 1, 2017 and assigned to Rock Antenne .

April Fool's Day
For an April Fool's joke, the station renamed itself “SHIT.fm” for 2 hours. Mainstream channels were parodied with the motto "The biggest shit of the 80s & 90s and the stupidest sayings of today". No song lasted longer than 1:30 minutes. The broadcast could be heard at www.shitfm.de . After 2 hours of broadcasting, protesting fans came to M94.5's studio to end the April Fool's joke.
