Jan Westphal (born September 11, 1968 ) is a German journalist , television producer and book author

Life

He began his career in 1988 at the advertising agency Earle Palmer Brown & Spiro in Philadelphia (USA). He later worked as press spokesman for the International Youth Festival Meeting in Bayreuth, (today: Festival Young Artists Bayreuth ) and as a reporter and presenter for Deutsche Welle , Munich local radio Charivari 95.5 and the local Munich TV station TV Weiß Blau / TV Munich. He was also a co-founder of the radio station afk M94.5 in Munich in the early 1990s . During his freelance work, Jan Westphal also worked as an author for the TV station VOX from 1994–95 .

From 1997 to 1998 Jan Westphal worked as a presenter and reporter for NBC in Namibia . In 1998 he moved to the radio station Antenne Bayern , where he later became head of entertainment and program design.

From 2004 Jan Westphal was Head of Entertainment, Show & Daytime Executive Producer at RTL Television . As an executive producer, he is primarily responsible for shows such as Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS), The Cube, Alt gegen Jung, the Bavarian TV Prize, 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, the ECHO Awards and the German TV Prize .

In 2008 Jan Westphal won the German Television Prize in the category Best Entertainment, Best Show for DSDS .

From 2017 to 2020 Westphal was managing director of Production Eins TV production company based in Cologne. Westphal has been Head of Producers in charge of entertainment at RTL Television since 2020.

In 2020 Westphal published the book Much Success! With the presenter Katrin Müller-Hohenstein . How we became what we are . The book was at number 1 on various bestseller lists at times.

He studied (Magister) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) and at the University of California, Los Angeles , USA.
