The Forbesnonne ( Lonchura forbesi ) is a species from the finch family . No subspecies are distinguished, but the Moorish nun is occasionally classified as a north-western representative of this species. Despite the small distribution area, this species is classified as not endangered by the IUCN .

description

The Forbesnonne reaches a body length of ten centimeters. There is no sexual dimorphism . The head, throat and neck have black plumage. The back and the wing covers are red-brown. The wings are dark brown, the individual feathers are lined with reddish brown on the outer flag. The upper tail coverts and the edges of the dark brown tail feathers are brownish golden yellow. The head area and the underside of the body are reddish light brown. The rear sides of the body, the rump, the back abdomen and the under tail-coverts, however, are black.

Distribution and way of life

The distribution area of ​​the Forbesnonne is the island of New Ireland in the Bismarck Archipelago . It is common in places on this island. Their preferred habitat is grassland up to an altitude of 1,000 meters. The preferred food of the Forbesnonne are grass seeds. Otherwise very little is known about the behavior of this species. There are also no observations from captivity.
