Willi Weitzel (born December 13, 1972 in Marburg as Helmar Rudolf Willi Weitzel ) is a German television presenter and reporter . He hosted the TV shows Willi wills Wissen and Willis VIPs . In 2008 he made the movie Willi and the wonders of this world . Other TV shows he hosted were Willis Quiz Quark Club , Willi wants to know - Good question, next question! , Willi wills know from A – Z and A good reason to celebrate (2011 to 2013). Since 2013 he has been traveling wild ways in Germany with his live program Willis . Since January 2018 he has moderated the magazine Gut zu Wissen on BR TV .

Life

Willi Weitzel comes from Stadtallendorf (Hessen), where his family ran a retail business for several generations . In 1992 he passed his Abitur at the Stiftsschule St. Johann in Amöneburg and then did community service . He then began studying theology , which he broke off after four semesters. Then he began an internship at Bayerischer Rundfunk .

At the same time he began a teaching degree for the secondary school in the subjects of Catholic religion, German , geography and sport , which he completed in early 2001.

During his time as a reporter for children's radio , he was discovered in 2001 as a reporter for the newly designed children's TV report format Willi wills Wissen ; Willis VIPs and QQC joined in 2005. All series are produced by Megaherz Film und Fernsehen on behalf of Bayerischer Rundfunk , broadcasting stations are Das Erste , KiKA , Bayerisches Fernsehen , WDR Fernsehen , hr-fernsehen , SWR Fernsehen and 3sat .

In 2008 Weitzel shot the film Willi and the wonders of this world in Australia , southern Algeria , Tokyo , the Canadian Arctic and in Germany . The adventure film was released on March 5, 2009.

In summer 2010 Weitzel released his CD / DVD Peter and the Wolf with the Ambassade Orchestra Vienna - a Willi version of Sergei Prokofiev's musical fairy tale . In December 2010 Weitzel filled the Frankfurt Opera for two consecutive days when he performed Peter and the Wolf together with the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra under the direction of General Music Director Sebastian Weigle . Weitzel was also on stage with Peter and the Wolf at the 2011 summer festival of the Federal President in the park of Bellevue Palace . Further concerts followed, as well as a Willi version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel .

In January 2010, Weitzel announced a longer retreat from television. In December 2010, the ZDF announced that Weitzel would be the presenter of a series on the Catholic holidays. The first edition of the series A good reason to celebrate was broadcast on Epiphany 2011 with Sven Hannawald , further episodes on Corpus Christi with Minh-Khai Phan-Thi , on Assumption of Mary with Bettina Wulff and on All Saints' Day with Johanna Klum . In 2012 editions were shown on the Epiphany with Karlheinz Brandenburg , on Corpus Christi with Klaus Allofs , on Assumption of Mary with Jörg Pilawa and on All Saints' Day with Thomas Huber . In 2013, the last episode of the series with Weitzel was sent to Dreikönig. On Corpus Christi the program was taken over by Jordana Schmidt , from All Saints' Day it was moderated by Andreas Korn . On Corpus Christi 2018 Nicodemus took over Schnabel .

In 2012 Weitzel designed a cookbook for children and families and published it in Südwest Verlag under the title Willi kocht .

In 2012 Weitzel founded the production company Welterforscher Film und so weiter GmbH, with which he produces his films. In 2013 he was on the road for the carol singers and produced the films for the annual campaigns 2013, 2014 and 2015 ( On the way for the carol singers - Willi in Tanzania 2013; On the way for the carol singers - Willi in the refugee camp 2014; On the way for the carol singers - Willi in the Philippines 2015 ).

In 2013 he wanted to find out whether it is possible nowadays to wander with a donkey from Nazareth to Bethlehem , as in the Christmas story. Weitzel succeeded.

Weitzel's latest project is Willis Wildewege , an adventure multivision lecture in which he reports on his adventures: how he hiked a donkey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, hitchhiked to paradise, was hunted by wild animals in Ethiopia or to Walked from Munich to Venice . In 2013 he was on tour for the first time with Willis wilde ways .

Weitzel has lived in Herrsching am Ammersee since 2013 . He has been married to his manager since 2012 and has a daughter born in 2008 from a previous relationship.
